This video will explain how to file for a California marriage license and also how to have a civil ceremony (courthouse wedding) at the Beverly Hills Courthouse (which can apply to most courthouses in LA county as well).
Two documents involved in a marriage:
1) The Marriage License allows you to get married
2) The Marriage Certificate of Record proves you are legally married.
Used for Banking, tax matters etc. You do NOT automatically
get one. They have to be ordered.
Requirements for filing a marriage license:
1) Both Bride and Groom must appear together
at the Clerks office when filing for License.
2) You must be 18 years old.
3) If you have been previously married less than 2 Years ago
you need to provide proof of being single again.
Information you need to fill out the Forms:
1) Current Street Address, City, State, Zip Code, Phone Number
2) Full Name (including birth names)
3) Date of Birth, Month, Day, Year, Birth Place
(State and Country of Birth)
4) Father’s and Mother’s full 1st and Last Name
5) Mother’s maiden name
6) Both Parent’s State and Country of Birth
7) Your ID # (drivers license, etc) issuing State/
Country/Expiration date (mo/day/year)
8) Number of Previous Marriages
Last Marriage end date (mo/day/year)
9) Request for Last Name Change Information
10) Place and Day of your Wedding Ceremony
Difference between a Public and a Confidential License for a Wedding:
Confidential Marriage License
Does not disclose personal information
such as date of birth, mother's maiden name
parents names or where they were born
which is information used in identity theft
Must be Living together or cohabitating as a married couple
Must get married in same County as issuance
Public Marriage License:
Can be used anywhere in CA
Must have a witness to sign
$91 for Public License
$85 for Confidential License
Both Public and Private good for 90 days
$35 for a Civil Ceremony
Includes room and person conducting ceremony
$20 If Courthouse has to provide a witness for a
$15 for each Certified Copy of your Wedding Record

How to save time and fill out an Online Application Form:

There you will find a internet link which will take you to a CA government
online marriage license application form. Once it is filled out and submitted
the person at the county clerks office will be able to access your form.
This saves you time and insures you have all the information needed. 841

You can also fill out the form in person at the office.
Online applications are kept for 15 days in the system from the date submitted.
After you fill it out you will need the confirmation code or printout to
take to the county clerk’s office.
