Washington has slammed Moscow for its “red carpet” treatment of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Speaking on the visit of Syrian leader to Russia, the White House spokesman Eric Schulz criticized the way President Assad was received in Moscow. The US again accused Bashar Assad of using chemical weapons against his own people and questioned Russia’s interests in a political transition of power in Syria.
In the meantime, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu also made sarcastic comments on the topic saying that Bashar Assad should have stayed in Moscow in order to give the people of Syria some relief and kick start the transition process. Davutoglu stressed that the transition process in Syria will be impossible as long as Bashar Assad is remaining in power.
On Tuesday Syrian President Bashar Assad met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in an unannounced visit to Moscow to discuss Russian aerial operation against ISIL in Syria.
President Assad thanked the Russian leadership for its aid to Syria, saying that it stands for Syria's unity and independence. He also underlined that any military action taken by the Syrian army presumes further political measures to resolve the Syrian crisis. That was the first overseas visit made by Bashar Assad since the civil war broke out in Syria in 2011.
